At Paws to Play they get to do both, in an environment that is secure, stimulating and lots of fun! We have a variety of multipurpose rooms, all of which have a range of sofas, playframes, tunnels and dog houses and with plenty of space for both playing and resting. We have a big room for dogs that are big in size or energy levels; a smaller room for the smaller dogs or those that prefer a calmer environment; a covered and fully enclosed yard; a puppy zone, and a chill out zone. We encourage rest breaks for those that need it by dimming the lights and playing soft music in the chill out room. All rooms are heated and air conditioned. Each day is planned with every dog’s breed, temperament and energy levels taken into consideration. Activities include playing fetch or tug with a variety of different toys, tunnel time, jumping hoops/agility games, sensory games, water-play and a pool for hot days. We’re constantly coming up with new and fun things to do and switch toys and activities regularly, although favourite toys are always available. Our experienced team are always on hand to encourage positive play and good social skills, as well as give sofa snuggles and belly rubs. Puppies and younger dogs will have regular rest breaks; older dogs will be rested as necessary, depending on the individual dogs. Some dogs will happily curl up on the nearest bed or sofa when they’re tired, but for those that won’t, we have a chill out room where we can dim the lights and play soft music (while giving the occasional belly rub) to encourage them to rest. When you and your dog first arrive, we’ll check over your dog (after giving lots of fuss first, obviously) before discussing yours and their needs. We’ll then give them a bath using a shampoo and conditioner suited to their coat – and you can choose the scent! As part of the full groom, we’ll also check their ears and nails and give them a clean and clip if its required. We’ll start by playing with them in the Groom Room (and if they are in our day care, we can do this regularly) so they are more relaxed when they find themselves in the bath! We use puppy friendly shampoo and conditioner before towel trying them and introducing them to the grooming table - and everything that involves! We’ll start with gentle brushing and blow drying on the quietest setting, with maybe a little trimming around their eyes and bum if needed. We’ll take everything slowly though, and basically just let them get used to the equipment. The aim of this groom is to make future grooms easier, so there’s as much emphasis on the ‘room’ as there is on the ‘groom’, but they will still come out clean, pampered and sweet smelling! We recommend you have a minimum of three puppy grooms before a full groom, as at each stage the dog will be introduced to new pieces of equipment to slowly build their confidence. As well as gathering the basic information (such as age, breed etc) we’ll have a chat with you before the session, so we have a good idea about your dog’s temperament, general behaviour and social skills. We’ll then use the session to get to know your dog, how they like to play and how they interact with other dogs and staff. When we first introduce your dog, we’ll start by letting them have a good sniff and run around with a member of staff before introducing dogs of a similar temperament, one or two at a time. What happens from there very much depends on your pup! Some dogs take to day care like they were born here and will dive straight in and make friends immediately, while others take a little more time to build up their confidence, so we’ll choose the space and dogs they play with accordingly. We do the same Introduction and Assessment as we do for all dogs, but we take things slower and make sure they have regular breaks. Puppies will either start off in the puppy zone or in a smaller room, depending on their size, age and energy levels, then move into the different rooms as they grow and gain confidence.. We take puppies from 2 weeks after their 2nd puppy vaccination.
